The
Prince George’s County Police Department arrested and charged a former officer
with the Fairmount Heights Police Department for raping a citizen after a
traffic stop, prior to his resignation. At the time of the incident in
September, he was a part-time officer with that agency. He is 30-year-old
Martique Vanderpool of the 5000
block of Duel Place in Capitol Heights. The Prince George’s County Police
Department Special Investigations Response Team launched an investigation into
Vanderpool’s actions at the request of the Fairmount Heights Police Chief.
The
preliminary investigation reveals that on September 6th, 2019, at approximately 11:20
pm, Vanderpool and a second officer with Fairmount Heights Police conducted
a traffic stop at Sheriff Road and Cabin Branch Drive in Capitol Heights. The
victim, an adult female, was the driver of that car and only occupant. During
the stop, Vanderpool asked the victim to step out of her car. She was
placed into handcuffs. Vanderpool then called for a tow truck to impound the
victim’s car. The victim was ultimately taken back to the Fairmount Heights
Police Department. While there, Vanderpool told the victim if she engaged in a
sexual act with him, he would release her. The victim complied. After the
sexual assault, Vanderpool issued the victim several citations, drove her to
the impound lot and had her car released back to her.

Vanderpool
is charged with first degree rape, second degree rape, second degree assault
and related charges. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections. A
court commissioner ordered him held on a no-bond status.

Former Police Officer Arrested
Tuesday, December 3, 2019
On
Monday evening, December 2, 2019, former Fairmount Heights Police Officer
Martique C. Vanderpool, a 30-year-old male, was arrested by the Prince George’s
County Police Internal Affairs Division for First Degree Rape for an incident
that occurred on or about September 6, 2019. An exhaustive, nearly two-month
investigation was launched based on a question we received concerning a traffic
stop procedure and the arrest of a motorist that raised our suspicions of
wrongdoing. This department then sought out the individual arrested in order to
gather more facts surrounding the incident. Immediately upon ascertaining that
a crime may have been committed against the arrested individual while detained
at our police facility, I contacted Prince George’s County Police Chief Stawinski
and requested an Internal Affairs investigation. That investigation led to the
issuance of an arrest warrant and charge for Mr. Vanderpool.
Mr. Vanderpool was hired on December 20, 2017 as a
full-time uniformed patrol officer and voluntarily changed his status to a
part-time officer in late July 2019. He submitted his resignation dated
November 18, 2019 to be effective November 23, 2019.

PGPD Arresta a Ex Oficial a Tiempo Parcial de Fairmont

El Departamento de la Policía del
Condado de Prince George’s arrestó y sometió cargos contra un ex oficial del
Departamento de la Policía de Fairmont Heights, luego de éste renunciar por
haber violado a una residente luego de una parada de tránsito. Al momento del
incidente en el mes de septiembre, éste fungía como oficial de la agencia a
tiempo parcial. El individuo fue identificado como Martique Vanderpool, de 30
años de edad y vecino de la cuadra 5000 de Duel Place en el área de Capitol
Heights. A petición del Jefe de la Policía de Fairmount Heights, el Equipo de
Respuesta Investigativa Especial del Departamento de la Policía del Condado de
Prince George’s abrió una investigación centrada en las acciones de Vanderpool.
La investigación preliminar reveló
que el 6 de septiembre de 2019, a eso de las 11:20 pm, Vanderpool y un segundo
oficial de Fairmount Heights llevaron a cabo una parada de tránsito éntrelas carreteras
Sheriff Road y Cabin Drive, en el área de Capitol Heights. La víctima, una
mujer adulta, era la conductora y única ocupante del vehículo. Durante la
parada, Vanderpool le pidió a la víctima que se bajara de su vehículo y fue
esposada. Luego de esto, Vanderpool llamó a una grúa de remolque y le
incautaron el vehículo. Entonces, la víctima fue llevada al cuartel del
Departamento de la Policía de Fairmount Heights. Una vez allí, Vanderpool le
dijo a la víctima que si sostenía relaciones sexuales con él, éste la dejaría
ir. La víctima accedió. Luego de la agresión sexual, Vanderpool le expidió a la
víctima varios boletos, le condujo al lote de vehículos incautados e hizo que
le entregaran el vehículo.

Vanderpool enfrenta cargos por
agresión sexual en primer y segundo grado, agresión en segundo grado y otros

la División de Asuntos Internos de la Policía del Condado de Prince George’s
por Violación en Primer Grado, producto de un incidente ocurrido en o alrededor
del 6 de septiembre de 2019. Una investigación exhaustiva de casi dos meses fue
abierta a base de interrogantes que recibimos con respecto a un procedimiento
de detención de tránsito y el arresto de una conductora, lo que a su vez nos
levantó sospechas de que se había cometido un delito. El Departamento buscó a
la persona arrestada para recolectar más información sobre el incidente.
Inmediatamente tras corroborar que en efecto se pudo haber cometido un crimen
contra la persona mientras estaba detenida en nuestras facilidades, contacté al
Jefe de la Policía del Condado de Prince George’s County, Hank Stawinski, y le
pedí una investigación por parte de la División de Asuntos Internos. Dicha
investigación llevó a la expedición de una orden de arresto y cargos contra el
Sr. Vanderpool.
El Sr.
Vanderpool fue contratado el 20 de diciembre de 2017 como oficial uniformado a
tiempo completo y voluntariamente cambió su estatus a oficial-a-tiempo-parcial
a finales de julio de 2019. Sometió su renuncia con fecha de noviembre 18 de
2019, la cual entró en efecto el 23 de noviembre de 2019.
