Suspect Who Carjacked Off-Duty PGPD Officer in Custody

Detectives with the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Major Crimes Division identified and charged a suspect wanted for the recent carjacking of an off-duty PGPD officer in Oxon Hill. The suspect is 19-year-old Anthony Stewart of Washington, DC. Detectives are actively working to identify the second suspect in this case.

On December 28, 2023, at approximately 5:05 pm, while the officer’s family was sitting inside of the family’s personal vehicle in the 6700 block of Oxon Hill Road, two suspects approached the vehicle and forced the occupants out. During the incident, the officer discharged his department-issued duty weapon. The victims nor the suspects were injured.  

During the course of the investigation, PGPD detectives were able to locate Stewart. With the assistance of the Metropolitan Police Department, Stewart was taken into custody in Washington, DC, on Friday where he remains in custody pending extradition to Prince George’s County. He is charged with carjacking, robbery, theft, and additional charges.

Driver Dies of Injuries from Collision

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction unit is investigating a fatal collision in College Park. The victim is 22-year-old Erik Mechtel of Clarksville. 

On December 16, 2023, at approximately 5:40 pm, patrol officers were called to the area of Campus Drive and Mowatt Lane for a two-vehicle collision. 

Preliminary investigation reveals the driver of an SUV struck a median and then struck the victim’s vehicle. The driver remained on scene and cooperated with police. The victim was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on December 28, 2023.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Shooting in Bowie

Detectives with the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the unincorporated section of Bowie. The decedent is 37-year-old Timothy Jones of Washington, DC. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.  

 

On December 28, 2023, at approximately 3:05 pm, officers responded to the 900 block of Saint Michaels Drive for a shooting. Once on scene, they located the victim in a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene. 

  

Detectives are working to determine a motive and identify a suspect(s).

PGPD Investigating Fatal Shooting in Oxon Hill

Detectives with the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in Oxon Hill. The decedent is 41-year-old Tracy Williams Jr. of Washington, DC. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.  

On December 26, 2023, at approximately 12:45 am, officers responded to the 5100 block of Deal Drive for a shooting. Once on scene, they located the victim in a stairwell suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.   

Detectives are working to determine a motive and identify a suspect(s).

PGPD Investigating Fatal Shooting in District Heights

Detectives with the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Sunday evening. The victim is 53-year-old Kevin Simmons of District Heights. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case. 

On December 24, 2023, at approximately 11:10 pm, officers responded to a shooting in the 2900 block of Ritchie Road in the unincorporated section of District Heights. Officers located the victim inside a residence suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Detectives are working to determine a motive and identify a suspect(s).

Gun Recovered at Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School

The Prince George’s County Police Department is investigating after a student at Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School in Upper Marlboro brought a loaded gun onto school property today. The suspect is a 17-year-old male.  

This morning, at approximately 9:30 am, the PGPD was notified that Prince George’s County Schools security personnel recovered the gun from the student.   

 

The student will be charged with handgun on person, dangerous weapon on school property, loaded handgun on person and additional charges.

The Prince George’s County Police Department is investigating after a student at Charles Herbert Flowers High School in Springdale brought a loaded gun onto school property today. The 18-year-old suspect is Ke’Shawn Reeves of Lanham.

 

This morning, at approximately 8:20 am, the PGPD was notified that Prince George’s County Schools security personnel recovered the gun from the student.   

 

The student will be charged with handgun on person, dangerous weapon on school property, loaded handgun on person and additional charges.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Shooting in Landover

Detectives with the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Monday afternoon. The victim is 40-year-old Rashik Jones of Landover. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case. 

On December 18, 2023, at approximately 1:10 pm, officers responded to a shooting in the 7000 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Highway in Landover. Officers located the victim outside suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Detectives are working to determine a motive and identify a suspect(s).

PGPD Investigating Fatal Collision in Landover

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a now fatal collision that occurred in Landover. The deceased driver is 34-year-old David Walton Jr. of Capitol Heights.  

On December 11, 2023, at approximately 10:30 pm, officers responded to Martin Luther King Jr. Highway and Sheriff Road for a collision involving a sedan and an SUV. Walton, who was driving the sedan, was transported to a hospital for treatment. He died of his injuries on December 17, 2023.  The second driver suffered injuries not considered life-threatening.  

The preliminary investigation revealed the two drivers collided at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Highway and Sheriff Road. The investigation into the cause of the crash is under investigation.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Collision in Glenn Dale

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal collision that occurred Tuesday in the Glenn Dale area. The deceased passenger is four-year-old Divya Akumbom of Lanham. 

On December 12, 2023, at approximately 9:20 am, officers responded to Glenn Dale Boulevard and Daisy Lane for a collision involving two SUVs. Akumbom was transported to a hospital where she was later pronounced deceased. The involved drivers suffered serious injuries and were also transported to a hospital.  

The preliminary investigation revealed the two drivers collided in the intersection of Glenn Dale Boulevard and Daisy Lane. The investigation into the cause of the crash is under investigation.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Shooting in Largo

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in Largo on Monday. The decedent is 18-year-old Marquise Williams of Landover.  

On December 11, 2023, at approximately 12:30 pm, officers responded to the 600 block of Harry S Truman Drive for a shooting. Once on scene, they located Williams in a parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene. A second adult male was also shot and taken to the hospital for treatment and has since been released.

The preliminary investigation suggests the decedent and the second male shot each other during a dispute. Detectives are in consultation with the State’s Attorney’s Office regarding any potential criminal charges.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Collision

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision. The deceased pedestrian is 70-year-old Marcos Gonzalez-Chavez of Chillum.   

On December 12, 2023, at approximately 6:00 am, officers responded to the 5900 block of Riggs Road in Chillum. Once on scene, they located the pedestrian in the roadway suffering from trauma. He was pronounced deceased on the scene. 

The preliminary investigation revealed the involved driver struck the pedestrian in the northbound lanes of Riggs Road. The driver remained on the scene. He was not injured.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Collision in Suitland

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is actively investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian that occurred early Tuesday morning in Suitland. The identity of the deceased pedestrian, an adult male, will be released once his family is located and notified.

On December 12, 2023, at approximately 3:00 am, officers responded to the 5000 block of Branch Avenue. Officers located the pedestrian in the roadway suffering from trauma. He was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed the involved driver struck the pedestrian in the northbound lanes of Branch Avenue. The driver remained on the scene and was not injured.

PGPD Investigating Domestic-Related Murder/Suicide

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is investigating a domestic-related murder/suicide on Sunday. The deceased victim is two-year-old Sterling Glover Petty of Frederick, Maryland. The deceased suspect is 38-year-old Kenneth Petty of Suitland. He is the victim’s father. 

On December 10, 2023, at approximately 1:00 pm, officers responded to the 1200 block of Mercantile Lane in the Largo area for a welfare check. Officers located the victim and suspect inside of a car, both suffering from a gunshot wound. The preliminary investigation revealed Petty shot and killed his son before killing himself. The motive for the murder is under investigation.

On December 9, 2023, at approximately 7:10 pm, officers responded to the 5400 block of Landover Road in the unincorporated section of Hyattsville. The pedestrian was transported to a hospital for treatment where he was pronounced deceased several hours later.

The preliminary investigation suggests the involved driver struck the pedestrian as he attempted to cross the roadway. The driver of the striking vehicle remained on the scene.
