PGPD Searches For Missing Man

The Prince George’s County Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in finding a missing man. He is identified as 33-year-old James Drake Jr. He was last seen in the 7500 block of Surratts Rd in Clinton at approximately 10:50 am on January 29, 2024.

Mr. Drake is a black male, 5'6" tall and 150-160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white and blue hospital gown.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Hit-and-Run

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is actively investigating a fatal hit-and-run involving a pedestrian that occurred in Capitol Heights. The deceased pedestrian is 27-year-old Ayanna Myrick of Upper Marlboro. 

On January 29, 2024, at approximately 3:20 am, officers with the Seat Pleasant Police Department were called to the area of Central Avenue and the Capital Beltway for an unresponsive adult female in the roadway. Ms. Myrick was pronounced deceased on the scene. The Prince George’s County Police Department investigates all fatal crashes which occur in the jurisdiction of the Seat Pleasant Police Department.

The preliminary investigation revealed the driver of an unidentified vehicle was traveling westbound on Central Avenue prior to the Capital Beltway, when for reasons under investigation, they struck the pedestrian. The driver did not remain on the scene. Investigators are working to determine the make and model of the striking vehicle.

Suspect Charged With Attempted Murder & Additional Offenses Following Crime Spree

The Prince George’s County Police Department located and arrested a suspect who committed two stabbings and several additional violent crimes in the county Thursday evening. The suspect is 31-year-old Tanay Stallings-Brown of Baltimore.

On January 25, 2024, at approximately 5:05 pm, PGPD officers were dispatched to Forest Park Drive and Ritchie Road in Capitol Heights for the report of a pedestrian struck. A driver struck a woman while she was on a sidewalk. The victim suffered minor injuries. The driver fled the scene. At approximately 5:15 pm, officers responded to 20 Ritchie Road. Two individuals had been struck by a car. The driver then exited the vehicle and stabbed one of the victims, a 15-year-old female, who has life-threatening injuries. The second victim, an adult male, has injuries not considered life-threatening.

At approximately 5:25 pm, officers responded to the 6800 block of Walker Mill Road. An adult male advised officers he had been struck by a car while walking on a sidewalk toward Addison Road. The driver turned around and came back to strike the victim a second time. His injuries are considered minor. A second victim was located in the 1000 block of Addison Road South. This victim, an adult male, had also been struck by a car. His injuries are also considered minor. An hour later, at approximately 6:35 pm, officers responded to a stabbing at a gas station in the 9100 block of Annapolis Road in Lanham. The victim, an adult male, suffered critical injuries.

Through various investigative techniques, detectives were able to identify the car used in each of these crimes – a dark-colored Chevrolet Malibu. The car was tracked and located in Baltimore. At approximately 10:50 pm, with the assistance of the Baltimore Police Department, PGPD officers observed the suspect enter the car. A traffic stop was conducted in the 2300 block of Washington Street. Officers took Stallings-Brown into custody and transported her back to Prince George’s County. The car she was driving had significant front-end damage and a smashed windshield.

“The crimes Stallings-Brown committed occurred across three different police divisions in span of an hour-and-a half. Commanders and investigators in each of these divisions worked aggressively to interview victims and witnesses and attempt to locate any video or images of the suspect. Investigators were able to determine the crimes were all linked and committed by one female suspect. Within six hours of her first crime, PGPD detectives identified, located and arrested her in Baltimore. I am proud of each of these officers. They worked with a determination to arrest the suspect who would so brazenly come into our community and cause harm to six victims. We wish each of these victims well in their recoveries,” said Chief Malik Aziz.   

The motive for these crimes remains under investigation. At this time, it appears she chose her victims at random.

Stallings-Brown is in the custody of the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections. She is charged with dozens of offenses to include multiple counts of attempted first degree murder, assault and additional charges related to striking the pedestrians.

PGPD Investigating Domestic-Related Fatal Stabbing

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is investigating a domestic-related fatal stabbing in a Lanham home. The decedent is 21-year-old Cristo Johnson of Lanham. 

On January 25, 2024, at approximately 7:15 am, officers responded to the 8000 block of Greenfield Drive for the report of a stabbing. Once on scene, they located Johnson suffering from a stab wound. He was pronounced deceased a short time later at a hospital. 

Investigators have identified the individuals involved in this incident who are family members. Detectives are working to determine the circumstances leading up to the stabbing and are in consultation with the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office to determine whether any charges would be appropriate.

PGPD Announces Graduation of Academy Session 150

The Prince George’s County Police Department is proud to announce the graduation of 36 recruits from the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Police Training Academy on Friday. 

Of the 36 graduates, 25 will join us here at the Prince George’s County Police Department. The remaining 11 will join the ranks of multiple partner law enforcement agencies within the county.

Detectives Recover Nearly 14,000 Fentanyl Pills; Nine Suspects in Custody

 

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Gang Unit arrested and charged nine suspects in connection with the recovery of nearly 14,000 fentanyl pills and multiple firearms from an apartment in Riverdale.  

 

Following an extensive investigation, detectives obtained a search warrant for a residence in the 5400 block of Hamilton Street. During the execution of that warrant on January 18, 2024, investigators recovered 13,825 fentanyl pills, cocaine and three firearms. Detectives arrested nine suspects who were in the apartment at the time.

The nine suspects are identified as:

31-year-old Steven Abdul Johnson of Greenbelt

30-year-old Francisco Orellana of Riverdale

22-year-old Antonio Sanchez-Ramirez of Riverdale

28-year-old Javier Reyes-Guzman of Hyattsville

33-year-old Fernando Guzman of Glen Burnie

22-year-old Marbin Hernandez-Alavarez of Riverdale

20-year-old Erick Rivera-Arguera of no fixed address

22-year-old Walter Flores-Mejia of Riverdale

 

Each of the suspects faces multiple charges to include drug trafficking offenses, firearms offenses and numerous drug-related offenses. The suspects are in the custody of the Department of Corrections.

 

“I applaud the incredible investigative work by the Gang Unit and the execution of this search warrant by the Emergency Services Team. This was a dangerous scene for our officers and they took nine suspects into custody without incident. We are determined to protect the residents of this county and by recovering nearly 14,000 fentanyl pills before they were able to be sold. Fentanyl is killing far too many Americans and we are determined to arrest those who would bring fentanyl into our community,” said Deputy Chief Zachary O’Lare, Bureau of Investigation.

Two Suspects Charged With Attempted Murder of Police Officer Following Officer-Involved Shooting

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Major Crimes Division charged two suspects with the attempted murder of a police officer following an officer-involved shooting in the unincorporated section of Upper Marlboro on Sunday. The suspects are 51-year-old Dennis Burkett of Brandywine and 50-year-old Robert Burkett Jr. of Temple Hills.

 

On January 21, 2024, at approximately 1:50 am, two Division V – Clinton Station patrol officers stopped to investigate a possible burglary in progress at a closed gas station in the 7600 block of Crain Highway. A burgundy van was backed into the front door of the business. A van had been used in a burglary in that area approximately an hour earlier. The officers activated their emergency lights and exited their cruisers. Seconds later, two suspects ran from the store and into the van. One of the officers attempted to remove the driver, Dennis Burkett, from the driver’s seat and gave verbal commands to stop. Dennis Burkett placed the van into drive and began to flee with the officer unable to disengage from the driver’s door area. The second patrol officer discharged his duty weapon one time, striking Dennis Burkett. Instead of stopping, Burkett continued to flee from the parking lot, sped across the four-lanes of Crain Highway and onto South Osborne Road all while dragging the officer. The officer fell from the van on South Osborne Road.

 

A pursuit of the fleeing van was authorized which lasted more than 30 minutes. The pursuit ended when the van became disabled at Branch Avenue and Bonita Street in Temple Hills. The suspects were both taken into custody. Dennis Burkett was transported from that scene for treatment. He was released from the hospital later in the day. The injured officer was also transported for treatment of minor injuries and has since been released.

 

A subsequent search of the gas station revealed a pry bar and other burglary tools left by the suspects. The store’s ATM had been tampered with. Detectives are looking into whether these two suspects are linked to other burglaries in the county. At this time, their methodologies match more than a dozen cases.

 

After the arrest, Robert Burkett admitted to the burglary at the gas station, fleeing from police and stealing the van from a Clinton church late Saturday night.  

 

Both suspects are charged with multiple offenses to include second-degree attempted murder, assault, breaking and entering, auto theft and additional charges. They are in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.

 

The Internal Affairs Division is investigating the actions of the officer who discharged his duty weapon. As is standard procedure, he is now on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. That officer joined the agency in 2022 and is assigned to the Bureau of Patrol.

Missing Woman Located Deceased

The Prince George's County Police Department is seeking the public's assistance in finding a missing woman. She is identified as 72-year-old, Eucharia Eleweanya. She was last seen in the 8900 block of 1^st Street in Lanham on January 19, 2024, at approximately 11:00 pm.

Ms. Eleweanya is a black female, 4’11” and 140 pounds. She was last seen wearing a gray jacket.

Three Suspects in Custody; Five Firearms & Fentanyl Recovered

A Gang Unit investigation led to the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of multiple weapons and thousands of fentanyl pills. The suspects are 26-year-old Dream Edwards of Columbia, Maryland, 22-year-old Romel Johnson of Laurel and 34-year-old Michael Jordan Thompson of Washington, DC. 

During the course of their investigation, detectives executed a search warrant at a home on Avebury Drive in Laurel. Four firearms, 300 fentanyl pills and other items of evidence were recovered. A subsequent search warrant of two vehicles connected to the suspects led to the recovery of an AK-47, three pounds of marijuana and three thousand fentanyl pills. 

The investigative work leading to this substantial seizure was made possible through funding provided by the Maryland Criminal Intelligence Network (MCIN) grant awarded by the Governor's Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services.

 

Edwards and Johnson are both charged with multiple charges to include firearms offenses and drug trafficking related offenses. Thompson is charged with multiple drug-related offenses. The suspects are in the custody of the Department of Corrections.

Homicide Unit Arrests Man in Connection With Murder of Mother

Prince George’s County Police Homicide Unit detectives arrested a man for killing his mother inside of their home. The suspect is 45-year-old Mark Terry of District Heights. He is charged in connection with the murder of his mother, 81-year-old Madia Terry. 

On January 14, 2024, at approximately 8:00 am, officers responded to their home in 2000 block of Brooks Drive in the unincorporated section of District Heights. When officers arrived, they located the victim unresponsive in the living room. The victim had what appeared to be bruising and trauma to her body. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

During an interview with detectives, Mark Terry admitted to fatally assaulting his mother during a dispute. He is charged with first and second degree murder and related charges. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
