PGPD Arrests Employee for Abusing Children at Daycare Center in Oxon Hill

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Child and Vulnerable Adult Abuse Unit arrested and charged an employee for abusing children in her care at a daycare center in Oxon Hill. The suspect is 23-year-old Kayla Greenwell of Oxon Hill.  

On April 7, 2023, the PGPD received multiple videos showing the suspect assaulting children at the center. Investigators immediately responded to the business in the 6000 block of Oxon Hill Road. Detectives gathered evidence, identified the suspect and ultimately obtained an arrest warrant. 

The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect recorded herself abusing the children on her cell phone on April 5, 2023. Greenwell began her employment at the center in late March. 

Greenwell is charged with multiple counts of child abuse and assault. She is in the custody of the Department of Corrections.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Hit-and-Run

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian hit-and-run that occurred Thursday evening. Investigators are working to positively identify the victim and notify his family.  

On April 6, 2023, at approximately 8:05 pm, officers responded to the 7900 block of New Hampshire Avenue in Langley Park for a crash involving a pedestrian.

The preliminary investigation revealed an unidentified driver struck the pedestrian in the roadway. The pedestrian died at a hospital a short time later. The striking driver did not remain on the scene. Preliminarily, the striking vehicle is described as a white cargo van. It could have damage to the right side mirror.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Collision in Landover Hills

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal collision that occurred Wednesday evening in Landover Hills. The deceased driver is 66-year-old Michael Ray Sr. of Hyattsville. 

On April 5, 2023, at approximately 5:15 pm, officers responded to the area of Annapolis Road and Cooper Lane for a crash involving two vehicles.  

The preliminary investigation revealed Ray was traveling eastbound on Annapolis Road while the driver of the second vehicle was traveling westbound on Annapolis Road. Ray then attempted to turn onto Cooper Lane and was struck by the second vehicle. Ray was taken to the hospital where he later died. Two passengers in Ray’s vehicle and the second driver suffered injuries not considered life-threatening.

Three 15-Year-old Juveniles & 18-Year-Old Adult Arrested in Connection With Armed Carjacking

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Carjacking Interdiction Unit charged three juveniles and an 18-year-old male in connection with an armed carjacking on Wednesday. The 18-year-old suspect is Zaquan Graham of Landover. Three 15-year-old males are also charged in the case. One of those juveniles is from Washington, DC, and the two others are from Upper Marlboro. The15 year olds are charged as juveniles.

On April 5, 2023, at approximately 6:10 pm, a victim called 911 to report he had just been carjacked at gunpoint in the 8000 block of James Street in the unincorporated section of Upper Marlboro. At 9:15 pm, Carjacking Interdiction Unit officers observed the carjacked car not far from the crime scene and attempted to conduct a stop. The driver refused to stop. A pursuit was authorized which ended on the Suitland Parkway. All four occupants of the carjacked vehicle bailed out of the car. Officers with Division V, VIII, the K9 section, the Guardian helicopter and the Carjacking Interdiction Unit canvassed the area. The four suspects were located and taken into custody. A handgun was recovered near the arrest scene.

One of the 15-year-old suspects is charged with armed carjacking. The remaining three suspects are charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle and handgun related offenses.

So far in 2023, the Carjacking Interdiction Unit has charged 35 juveniles and 22 adults in connection with carjacking cases.
