PGPD Investigates Fatal Collision in Oxon Hill

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal collision in Oxon Hill. The victim is identified as 27-year-old Jerry Garris, Jr., of the 600 block of Mace Drive in Fort Washington.

On February 9, 2014, at about 3:00 am, patrol officers were called the 8800 block of Oxon Hill Road for the report of a crash.  When they arrived, they found that an SUV had hit a tree.  Garris was the only occupant of the SUV.  He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The preliminary investigation reveals Garris was heading northbound on Oxon Hill Road when for reasons which remain unclear, his SUV veered to the left, crossed the southbound lane and left the roadway.  The SUV then struck a large tree. Garris was not wearing a seat belt.

Investigators are looking into whether speed played a role in this crash.
