PGPD Investigating Fatal Collision in Laurel

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal collision in Laurel on Monday evening. The victim is 46-year-old Lucia Espirtu-Cortez of Avery Drive in Laurel.

On October 23rd, at approximately 5:25 pm, patrol officers were called to the intersection of Laurel Bowie Road and Bowie Road for the report of a collision involving two vehicles. Espirtu-Cortez was rushed to a hospital where she died a short time later. The driver and a second occupant in the victim’s vehicle suffered what appear to be non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the second vehicle also suffered what appear to be non-life threatening injuries. 

The preliminary investigation reveals the victim was riding in a van that was traveling northbound on Laurel Bowie Road when the driver attempted to make a left turn onto Bowie Road. The second vehicle, which was traveling southbound on Laurel Bowie Road, collided with the van.
