Detectives
located and arrested a suspect for throwing sulfuric acid on his roommate’s
face and upper body causing critical injuries. The suspect is 28-year-old Bekre
Abdela of the 1000 block of East-West Highway in the unincorporated portion of
Hyattsville. He’s charged with attempted murder, assault and additional
charges.
On
February 24th, at approximately 7:30 pm, officers responded to the
1000 block of East-West Highway for the report of a roommate dispute. When they
arrived, they discovered the victim suffering from what appear to be chemical
burns. The victim, an adult female, was rushed to a hospital where she remains
in critical condition.
Detectives
quickly developed the roommate as the suspect. He had fled the scene by the
time our officers arrived. On February 26th, the suspect was
located and arrested. He has admitted his involvement in the attack. The motive
is under investigation.
