Shooting Victim Dies of Injuries; Case Ruled a Homicide

Detectives with our Homicide Unit are now leading the ongoing investigation into a shooting that occurred in early September in Suitland. The victim is 50-year-old Anthony Burress of Walters Lane in District Heights. He was shot on September 2nd and died on September 14th. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.  Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random crime.

On September 2nd, at approximately 11:00 pm, patrol officers were called to the 3600 block of Silver Park Drive for a report of a shooting. Officers discovered Burress suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a hospital where he was treated and released on September 12th. Two days later, he was transported back to the hospital where he died a short time later.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy. The victim’s death was ruled a homicide due to complications from the shooting.

Detectives are actively working to identify a suspect(s) and a motive.
