Prince George’s County Police Homicide Unit detectives charged a man in connection with the murder of his mother. The suspect is 40-year-old James Calero of Bowie. The deceased victim is 72-year-old Susan Calero of Bowie.
On May 18, 2025, at approximately 3:55 pm, officers with the City of Bowie Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance at a home in the 12000 block of Blackwell Lane. Officers located Susan Calero unconscious and suffering from severe trauma. She was pronounced dead on the scene. A second victim, an adult female, was also located suffering serious injuries. Preliminarily, her injuries are not considered life-threatening.
The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect assaulted the victims during a dispute. He then fled the home. A short time later, officers with the Anne Arundel County Police Department arrested Calero.
He is charged with first degree murder, assault and related charges. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
The PGPD investigates all homicides that occur in the city of Bowie.
