PGPD to Hold Child Car Seat Check in Beltsville

The Prince George’s County Police Department would like parents and guardians to join us this weekend to ensure that your children are traveling safely.

The PGPD and the Prince George’s Community Federal Credit Union will hold a car seat check this Saturday in Beltsville. The event is free and open to the public. 

Certified car seat technicians will ensure that car seats and boosters are properly installed.  All cars seats must be installed upon arrival.  Appointments are not necessary.  Each car seat check takes about 30 minutes.  If possible, please bring the manufacturer’s manuals for the vehicle and car seat.

PGPD Searches for Critical Missing Person

The Prince George’s County Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in searching for a critical missing person. He is identified as 73-year-old Robert Lee Taylor of the 1400 block of Southern Avenue in Oxon Hill. He was last seen at the Safeway in the Rivertowne Commons Shopping Center on November 5, 2013. Taylor is suffering from dementia.

Taylor is described as a black male, 5’11”, 300 pounds, with a gray mustache and a scar on his left elbow.  He was last seen wearing a black leather jacket, gray sweater, blue jeans and black shoes.

PGPD Investigates Car Theft-Related Shooting

Updated November 5, 2013:  The suspect wanted in connection with the car theft and the assault on the officer is now in custody in the District.  U.S. Park police officers arrested 20-year-old Rahman Elijah Mills of Iverson Street in Hillcrest Heights last night at MedStar Hospital.  He’s charged with attempted second degree murder, first degree assault, reckless endangerment and other charges.  He’s currently awaiting extradition to Prince George’s County.  

The Prince George’s County Police Department is investigating the possible shooting of a car theft suspect in Temple Hills.

On November 4, 2013, at about 6:45 am, patrol officers responded to the 4300 block of 23rd Place for a stolen vehicle.  Upon arrival, patrol officers were met a short distance from the home by an off-duty U.S. Park police officer. 

The preliminary investigation reveals the officer observed a suspect steal a Toyota Corolla from outside the officer’s mother’s home.  The officer then got into his personal vehicle and caught up to the suspect at Lyons and Olson Streets.  He confronted the suspect and ordered him to stop.  The officer identified himself as a police officer and ordered the suspect out of the car.  The suspect revved the engine and began driving towards the officer.  The officer fired several shots into the car as the suspect drove towards him.  The suspect then drove off.

The stolen Toyota was found abandoned a short time later in Hillcrest Heights.  At this time it is not clear if the suspect was struck by gunfire.  There is a person of interest in this case.  No one is currently in custody.  No charges have been filed.  The off-duty officer was not hurt.  Additional questions about the officer should be directed to U.S. Park Police.
