Missing Man Found

Harvey Taylor

The Prince George’s County Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in searching for a missing person. He is identified as 82-year-old Harvey Taylor. He was last seen in the 11400 block of Brooklee Drive in Upper Marlboro on May 10, 2018, at 9:00 am.

Harvey is 6’1”, and 190 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue sweatshirt and black hat.

Detectives Investigate Fatal Shooting

Homicide Unit detectives are actively working to arrest the suspect(s) who fatally shot a man Wednesday evening.  The victim is 29-year-old James Edwards of Lamont Drive in New Carrollton. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case. Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random act.

On May 9, 2018, at approximately 6:10 pm, patrol officers responded to Annapolis Road at the Baltimore-Washington Parkway for the report of a shooting. Officers found the victim in the roadway suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

An Open Letter of Gratitude from Police Chief Hank Stawinski

On Tuesday, May 8^th, the Prince George’s County Police Department lost 44 year old Corporal Kevin Brooks to an apparent medical emergency while he was off-duty.  Brooks was a 12 year veteran of District IV who touched many lives and helped guide many careers at PGPD.  He was a beloved husband and father.  His PGPD brothers and sisters are heartbroken and are asking the community to please keep Corporal Brooks’ family in their thoughts and prayers.  

Meantime, we are sharing the following letter from our Chief with the community and fellow law enforcement in Northern Virginia: 

An open letter from Prince George’s County Police Chief Hank Stawinski to members of Virginia State Police, Fairfax County Police, City of Fairfax Police, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, Fairfax County Animal Protection Police, and beyond….

To all of the Men and Women of Public Safety, particularly in Northern Virginia, who treated us with dignity and respect and opened their arms to us in our time of need, I wish to extend my personal thanks and my thanks on behalf of the 1700 Men and Women of the Prince George’s County Police Department. We experienced the tragic and sudden loss of a young officer with a brilliant career in front of him.  All of this was exacerbated by the fact that it all unfolded outside of our home jurisdiction.  The processes of assisting family, bringing officers together, and informing community could have been challenging, but what we found was that we were welcomed, and we were, in every way that matters, at home.  For you to take the extraordinary step of lining the procession route from INOVA Fairfax Hospital all the way out I-66 in similar fashion to what we would do for our own was touching in a way that I can’t express.  You have my heartfelt thanks.  You have the thanks and the respect of the Men and Women of the Prince George’s County Police Department.

Burglary Suspect

Detectives are asking for our community to call with any information on this suspect. He’s wanted for breaking into a house on Longleaf Road in Capitol Heights on April 30^th. Burglary Investigation

This is the suspect we’re working to identify in connection with a burglary at a fast food restaurant in Clinton. On May 1^st, at approximately 1:30 am, the investigation reveals he broke into the closed restaurant on Woodyard Road. He broke in through the drive-through window. He stole cash and another item from inside the business. Please call 301-868-8773 with any information on his identity. 

Convenience Store Robbery

Robbery Unit detectives are working to identify the four suspects who robbed a convenience store in Cheverly. This robbery took place on May 6^th at approximately 11:00 pm at the store in the 6000 block of Arbor Street. The suspects had weapons and demanded cash from an employee.
