PGPD Honors Fallen Officer Sergeant Anthony Walker

Let us pause to remember our fallen hero, Sergeant Anthony M. Walker, lost this day in 2003.

Sergeant Walker was born on June 23, 1962. He joined the Prince George’s County Police Department on July 9, 1984. After graduating from the academy, Sergeant Walker was assigned to the District I station before being transferred to the Narcotics Enforcement Division. During his career, Sergeant Walker became active in the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 89.  He served that organization in several positions and was ultimately elected President in November 2001.

At about 10:50 pm on November 5, 2003, Sergeant Walker left a meeting at the FOP, when he lost control of his police cruiser on Brandywine Road in Brandywine. The cruiser left the roadway and struck a tree.  Sergeant Walker was seriously hurt and was rushed to Washington Hospital Center.  He courageously battled his injuries for the next 10 days, undergoing numerous surgeries. Sadly, in the early morning hours of November 15, 2003, Sergeant Walker died of his injuries.

Sergeant Walker served the Prince George’s County Police Department for 19 years and was the 23rd member of this agency to make the ultimate sacrifice. He was the 43rd law enforcement officer to give his life in service to this profession within Prince George’s County.

At the time of his death, Sergeant Anthony M. Walker was 41 years old and survived by his wife, son, and three daughters.

PGPD Arrests Bank Robbery Suspect

William McKinley Thomas

Prince George’s County Police Robbery Unit detectives arrested a suspect wanted for robbing a Fort Washington bank last week. He’s 43-year-old William McKinley Thomas of the 3900 block of 23rd Parkway in Temple Hills. Detectives tracked down Thomas through the taxi cab he used to get to and from the bank.

On November 7, 2014, at about 11:30 am, patrol officers were called to the 10000 block of Indian Head Highway for an armed robbery. The preliminary investigation reveals Thomas walked up to a bank teller and demanded cash. The teller complied. Thomas then ran from the bank and got back into the taxi he arrived in.

Detectives were able to find that taxi, which led them to Thomas. He was arrested on November 12, 2014. The taxi driver was not involved in the robbery.
