PGPD Joining First Global Police Tweet-a-Thon

The Prince George’s County Police Department will make social media history this Friday by joining in the first ever Global Police Tweet-a-Thon (think Ride Along while tweeting).  The PGPD will be among more than 90 police departments, from at least six countries, taking part in the all-day event.  We’ll be joining fellow law enforcement agencies from Canada, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Iceland, Australia and New Zealand.

The PGPD will give unfettered access to the Department beginning at 8:00 am and running through midnight.  The day will begin with the Special Operation Division’s K9 Unit as it engages in its rigorous bomb and drug detection training. Members of the Media Relations Division will later join two of the PGPD’s Robbery Suppression Teams in the Langley Park area as well as Kentland and Palmer Park.  RSTs are specialized teams focused on targeted enforcement areas.  At 6:00 pm, the final leg of the Global Police Tweet-a-Thon will begin, as we shadow a patrol officer inside the Beltway.

Follow @PGPDNews and use the hashtag #poltwt (short for police tweet) to join the conversation this Friday.

And of course, every day of the week, please tweet us your comments, concerns and kudos to @PGPDNews.
