PGPD Investigates Departmental Crash in Laurel

The Prince George’s County Police Department is investigating a departmental crash in Laurel.

On April 29, 2013, at approximately 2:00 am, police officers responded to Baltimore Avenue and Contee Road for a crash involving an on-duty Prince George’s County Police officer.  The officer, driving a marked SUV, struck a curb while turning from Baltimore Avenue onto Contee Rd.  The SUV flipped over and struck a lamp post.  The lamp post fell and damaged several parked cars.

The preliminary investigation suggests speed and weather were factors in the accident.  The driver, a two-year veteran, was treated and released from the hospital.

For more information, please contact the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Media Relations Division at 301-772-4710.

As you tell the public, just because you are in a 4 Wheel drive vehicle does not make you invincible in bad weather. Everyone needs to just slow down and take their time. There is no reason to rush for no reason.

Who said anything about rushing for no reason? The officer could have been on a priority call. Its not all ways lights and sirens. Get well officer.

Obviously he was not driving in a safe manor. Even if you are responding on an emergency call you still have to be safe. If you crash before you get there you are doing no one any good. Especially if you injure yourself or someone else in the process.

Get well young soldier. As for the other officers that may read this post, remember to drive carefully. We need you to make it home the same way you left before your shift.
