PGPD Investigates Fatal Pedestrian Collision in Lanham


The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision in Lanham. The victim is 74-year-old Mary Ankeney of Quicksilver Court in Bowie.

On March 10
th, at about 2:00 pm, patrol officers were called to the 10500 block of Greenbelt Road for a collision involving a pedestrian and an SUV. When they arrived, the officers found Ankeney unresponsive in the parking lot of a grocery store.  She was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

The preliminary investigation reveals
the victim had just left the store and was pushing her cart toward the parking lot when she was struck by the SUV. The vehicle had just pulled up in front of the store. Preliminarily, it appears the driver stopped the SUV, opened the door and got out. It appears the SUV was not in park, went forward and struck the victim. The driver remained on scene and called 911.
