PGPD Investigates Police-Involved Shooting in Cottage City

             Prince George’s County, Maryland…The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Special Investigative Response Team (SIRT) is investigating a police-involved shooting that occurred in Cottage City, Maryland.
            On May 8, 2011, at approximately 5:00 p.m., officers responded to the 3800 block of Cottage Terrace to search for the suspect involved in a domestic- related shooting that occurred earlier in the day.  While conducting a search underneath a bridge, officers were confronted by the armed suspect.  The suspect was ordered several times to put the gun down, but he refused.  The officer fired his service weapon; striking the suspect in the upper body.  The suspect was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  He has been identified as 49 year old Edward Vincent McRavin of the 4200 block of Monroe Street in Colmar Manor, Maryland. 
            Preliminary investigation has revealed that McRavin was involved in a domestic-related shooting that occurred around 10:45 a.m., in the 3600 block of Taylor Street in Brentwood, Maryland.  McRavin fired his weapon at a 45 year old female victim, striking her in the upper body.  He then attempted to fire his weapon at a 10 year old male victim but his weapon misfired, saving the child from injury.  The female victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. 
The officer involved has been identified as 14 year veteran, Lt. Harold Simms, III, who is assigned to the Bureau of Patrol and has been placed on administrative leave in accordance with departmental policy.
