Police Make Quick Arrest in Murder in Berwyn Heights

     The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit arrested 36-year-old Andrew Heinz Kugler in connection with the murder of Amber Danielle Schinault in Berwyn Heights.

     Homicide detectives identified Kugler, of the 4000 block of Hillwood Court in Beltsville, as the suspect in this case. A warrant for his arrest was obtained charging him with second degree murder. On July 23rd, at approximately 9:30 a.m., officers observed Kugler near Calvert Road and Bowdoin Street in College Park where he was apprehended. Prior to being placed into custody, Kugler attempted to take his own life by cutting his wrist. He was transported to a local hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. Kugler has been remanded to the Department of Corrections on a no bond status.

     On July 22, 2012, at 3:31 p.m., patrol officers responded to the 8600 block of 57th Avenue for the report to check on the welfare. Upon arrival, officers discovered Schinault, of the 8600 block of 57th Avenue, suffering from lacerations to her neck. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

     The victim and suspect knew each other.

Having just stepped out of my house onto Bowdoin to walk to the Metro, I saw the whole thing. 30 seconds more & I would have been in the intersection when Kugler came to a stop adjacent to the CSX tracks. Bryan
