Fallen Police Officer First Class Adrian Morris |
Today, family, friends and law enforcement agencies from around the country came to honor a fallen hero as the Prince George's County Police Department laid to rest Police Officer First Class Adrian Morris. The 23 year old was posthumously promoted at today's funeral service at Woodstream Church in Mitchellville. Police Officer First Class Morris will be remembered for his enthusiasm and devotion to his family, career, community and fellow police officers.
This morning, Chief Magaw addressed the church filled with hundreds of police officers saying, “In the time that Adrian was with the Prince George’s County Police Department, he made a lasting impression on our agency; not only with his co-workers, but with the community as well. His loss has left us with a tremendous void.”
County Executive Rushern Baker thanked POFC Morris for "...your dedication and commitment to the citizens and residents of Prince George’s County. You will be missed. And when we look up into the sky at night, we will see your star shining ever so brightly.”
The 2 1/2 year veteran joined the PGPD after volunteering as a police Explorer for five years. He was born in Kingston, Jamaica, raised in Laurel, and became a U.S. citizen in 2009. POFC Morris graduated from Greenbelt's Eleanor Roosevelt High School in 2007. He continued his association with the police Explorer as an advisor and mentor after joining the police department. He was assigned to the District VI station for his entire career. POFC Morris died in the line of duty on Monday, August 20, 2012, in a car crash on I-95 in Beltsville.
POFC Morris is survived by his mother, father, brother and fiancé. He is the 27th member of the department to die in the line of duty. We are forever grateful for his service and sacrifice.
