PGPD Investigates Fatal Pedestrian Collision in Takoma Park

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision in Takoma Park. The victim is identified as 32-year-old Walter Franco-Chinchilla of the 7700 block of Chillum Road in Hyattsville.

On April 12, 2014, just before midnight, patrol officers were called to the 6700 block of New Hampshire Avenue for a pedestrian collision.  When they arrived, they found Franco-Chinchilla in the roadway.  He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The preliminary investigation suggests Franco-Chinchilla was trying to cross New Hampshire Avenue when he was struck by a car.  He was not in a crosswalk.  Moments later, a second car also struck him.  The drivers of both cars remained on the scene and are cooperating with investigators.

Investigators do not believe excessive speed played a role in the crash.
