PGPD Investigates Fatal Pedestrian Collision in College Park

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision in College Park.  The victim is identified as 23-year-old Carlos Pacanins of the 6400 block of Ruffin Road in Chevy Chase.

On April 11, 2014, at about 10:20 pm, patrol officers were called to the intersection of Baltimore Avenue and Knox Road for a pedestrian collision.  When they arrived, they found Pacanins in the roadway suffering from critical injuries. He died of his injuries on Sunday April 13, 2014.

The preliminary investigation reveals Pacanins was trying to cross Baltimore Avenue when he was struck by a car heading northbound. Pacanins was walking in or near a crosswalk, however, a "Don't Walk" signal was flashing at the time. The driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

Investigators believe alcohol may be a factor on the part of Pacanins.
