PGPD Investigating City of Bowie Police Department Officer-Involved Shooting

At the request of the City of Bowie Police Department, the Prince George’s County Police Department Internal Affairs Division and Criminal Investigations Division are investigating a non-contact officer-involved shooting involving one of their officers.

This incident occurred on August 8th at approximately 5:20 pm. The preliminary investigation reveals the involved officer conducted a traffic stop on a car on Elder Oaks Boulevard at Excalibur Road in Bowie. During that traffic stop, for reasons which remain under investigation, the officer discharged his duty weapon and the driver did not remain on scene. Detectives are working to piece together the sequence of those events. Initially, it was unclear whether the driver was wounded. However, several hours after the incident, the driver turned himself into the City of Bowie Police Department. He had not been struck, although his vehicle was struck by a bullet during the incident. Prince George’s County Police detectives interviewed the driver who was later released. He has not been charged with any crimes at this point in the investigation.

Any questions regarding the status or information pertaining to the involved officer should be directed to the City of Bowie Police Department.

There are no additional details on this investigation that will be released at this time.
