Detectives Arrest Suspect in Fatal Christmas Eve Shooting

The Homicide Unit identified and arrested a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting in Temple Hills on Christmas EveThe suspect is 25-year-old Markell Lewis of Clinton. He’s charged with the murder of 30-year-old Danny Kelly Jr. of Clinton.

 

On December 24, 2021, at approximately 4:40 pm, patrol officers were called to the 4400 block of St. Barnabas Road. They discovered Kelly unresponsive in the driver’s seat of his vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead a short time later. The preliminary investigation revealed Kelly, his girlfriend and his three children were heading northbound on St. Barnabas Road. An SUV pulled up next to Kelly’s pickup truck and an occupant opened fire. No one else in Kelly’s truck was injured. The suspect vehicle was later identified to be a dark blue GMC Envoy. 



Through various investigative techniques, Homicide Unit detectives identified the GMC Envoy used in the crime. Lewis’ family member is the SUV’s registered owner. After identifying the vehicle and Lewis, detectives learned that on December 27, 2021, PGPD officers arrested Lewis on St. Barnabas Road for felon in possession of a gun. The gun recovered during that arrest was subsequently linked to the murder of Kelly. Officers arrested Lewis on Thursday at his home in Clinton. PGPD detectives continue to search for the GMC Envoy.

Lewis is currently charged with a total of 36 charges to include first degree murder, second degree murder and multiple counts of attempted murder. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections and is being held on a no-bond status. The motive for the murder is road rage. He has confessed to the shooting

Detectives Arrestan a Sospechoso en Caso de Mortal Tiroteo Ocurrido en Nochebuena

Nuestra Unidad de Homicidios identificó y arrestó a un sopechoso en conexión con el mortal tiroteo que se registró en Temple Hills en Nochebuena. El sospechoso fue identificado como Markell Lewis, de 25 años y vecino de Clinton. A este se le imputa el asesinato a tiros de Danny Kelly Jr., de 30 años y vecino de Clinton.

El 24 de diciembre de 2021, a eso de las 4:40 pm, oficiales de patrulla acudieron a la cuadra 4400 de St. Barnabas Road. Estos hallaron a Kelly inconsciente y con múltiples heridas de bala en el asiento de conductor de su vehículo. A este le declararon fenecido en un hospital poco tiempo después. La investigación preliminar reveló que Kelly, su novia y sus tres hijos viajaban en dirección norte sobre St. Barnabas Road. Una SUV se detuvo al lado de la camioneta de Kelly y uno de sus ocupantes abrió fuego. Ninguno de los otros pasajeros que viajaban SUV de Kelly resultaron heridos. El arma que recuperaron en ese arresto posteriormente la conectaron al asesinato de Kelly. Los oficiales arrestaron a Lewis el jueves en su casa en el área de Clinton. Detectives de PGPD continúan en busca de la GMC Envoy.

Al momento, Lewis enfrenta un total de 36 cargos, entre los cuales figuran asesinato en primer grado, asesinato en segundo grado y múltiples cargos por tentativa de asesinato. Este se encuentra bajo la custodia del Departamento de Corrección y se encuentra recluído sin derecho a fianza. Se determinó que el motivo del asesinato fue furia en la carretera. Este confesó ser autor del tiroteo.
