PGPD Arrests 10 Drunk Drivers Over Weekend

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s participation in a statewide drunk driving enforcement operation called Project SOLO (Saving Our Loved Ones) continued over the weekend.

On May 4 and 5, 2013, patrol officers focused their enforcement along the University Boulevard corridor, Baltimore Avenue, Kenilworth Avenue and Riggs Road. During the more than 170 traffic stops beginning Saturday evening, patrol officers made 10 DUI arrests and issued more than 190 traffic citations.

On May 5, 2013, members of the Special Operations Division’s Traffic Enforcement Section and the Aviation Unit participated in the “Operation Road Runner” initiative, a safety campaign targeting speeding motorcyclists.  More than 40 traffics stops were conducted.  Officers issued more than 45 traffic citations.  They also arrested one driver and impounded his motorcycle after he attempted to flee.

The citations issued over the weekend included 37 speed violations, five aggressive driving violations, and four seat belt/child safety seat violations.

The PGPD will continue this enforcement throughout the year on known high drinking and driving nights.

Thank you! I wondered why I was seeing so many officers on my way home from work. Can't begin to tell you how many times cars have passed me or I've been behind someone who is all over the road!
Keep up the good work.
