This Saturday, the Prince George’s County Police Department,
along with the Drug Enforcement Administration, will be collecting potentially
dangerous, expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs for
destruction. The effort is part of the “National Prescription Drug
Take-Back Initiative.”
The
PGPD will have three collection locations on Saturday. The medications do not
need to be in their original packaging. We will not be able to
accept liquids, aerosol-based medication or needles/injectable pens. This
collection service is free and anonymous.
PGPD
collection locations:
*District I Station at 5000 Rhode Island Avenue in Hyattsville
*District IV Station at 5135 Indian Head Highway in Oxon Hill
When:
Saturday, September 26, 2015
Time:
10:00 am – 2:00 pm
This
initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. The DEA
cites studies which show a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained
from family and friends, often from a home medicine cabinet. In 2014, this national effort resulted in the
collection of more than 300 tons of pharmaceutical controlled substances and
other medications for safe and proper disposal.
