The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal motorcycle crash in Laurel. The victim is 57-year-old Reinhard Schmidt of Shadow Park Drive in Laurel. The crash occurred last month. Schmidt died of his injuries this week.
On October 24, 2015, at about 3:30 pm, patrol officers were called to the intersection of Old Gunpowder Road and Minnick Road for a crash involving a motorcycle. When they arrived, the officers found Schmidt suffering from critical injuries. He was taken to the hospital where he died of his injuries on November 3, 2015. No other vehicles were involved.
The preliminary investigation reveals Schmidt was traveling south on Old Gunpowder Road when for reasons which remain under investigation, he lost control of his motorcycle.
