Two Teenagers in Custody for Fatal Shooting in Town of Brentwood

Prince George’s County Police Department Homicide Unit detectives identified and charged two teenagers in connection with a recent fatal shooting that occurred in the town of Brentwood. The suspects are both 16 years old and are from Mount Rainier. They are charged as adults with the murder of 16-year-old Ruben Arevalo Saavedra of Hyattsville.

 

On June 12, 2026, at approximately 4:55 pm, officers responded to a shooting in the 3700 block of Shepherd Street. Officers located the victim outside suffering from a gunshot(s) wound. He died at the scene.

 

The preliminary investigation revealed the suspects shot the victim in connection with an on-going dispute. The victim and suspects were known to each other. On Thursday, the PGPD’s Fugitive Unit, which is part of the U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, arrested the suspects.

 

The suspects are both charged with first and second degree murder and related offenses. They are in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.

 

The Prince George’s County Police Department investigates all homicides that occur in the town of Brentwood.
