Update June 24, 2013: Thanks to everyone who participated in Gift Cards for Guns. We are pleased to announce that 63 weapons were collected!
The Prince George’s County Police Department is taking part
in a “Gift Cards for Guns” event this weekend. In an effort to further
reduce gun violence in Prince George’s County, the PGPD will accept guns from
citizens who voluntarily surrender them. The firearms do not need to be
functional. In return, citizens will receive a gift card valued up to
$100. The PGPD is proudly partnering with Prince George’s County Council Member
Obie Patterson, the Prince George’s County Chapter of the NAACP, the county’s
Youth Strategies Division and the Forest Heights Police Department in this
effort. Participating citizens should place all firearms, unloaded, in
the trunk of their cars. A uniformed police officer will greet them at
the door and provide further instructions. Unwanted ammunition may be
submitted as well.
