PGPD Investigates Fatal Collision Involving Departmental Vehicle

Updated June 12, 2013:  The deceased driver is identified as 32-year-old James Dejay Toliver, of the 10700 block of Castleton Way in Upper Marlboro.  The involved officer is identified as Corporal Michael Mogavero, a nine-year veteran assigned to the Special Operations Division.



The Prince George’s County Police Department is investigating a fatal collision in Bowie involving a departmental vehicle.  The departmental vehicle and a civilian’s car collided at the intersection of Route 197 and London Lane at approximately 3:05 am this morning.  The civilian driver died from his injuries at the hospital.  

The preliminary investigation reveals an on-duty Prince George’s County Police officer was responding to an unrelated collision at the time of the crash.  The police officer was driving on Route 197 toward Route 50 when he collided with the civilian car in the intersection.  The police officer’s car struck the driver’s side of the vehicle.  The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit (CARU) is investigating the cause of the collision and working to determine fault.  The Prince George’s County Police Department would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision.  CARU investigators can be reached at 301-731-4422.
