The Prince George's
County Police Department’s Inspector General Carlos Acosta was an invited guest
and panel speaker Wednesday at the University of Maryland for the newly
implemented Paving the Way for Colleges and Careers: Families and Schools
Together program. This program is a three-year curriculum designed to
include families in creating a college-going culture in grades 9, 10, and 11 so
that by senior year in high school, students and families are better prepared
for college. The Prince George's County English for Speakers of Other Languages
(ESOL) Office & International Student Counseling Office (ISCO) have
collaborated to facilitate monthly sessions for 9th grade ESOL students and
their families at Northwestern High School in Hyattsville.
