The
Prince George’s County Police Department arrested a suspect in connection with
a homicide on New Year’s Day along a trail in Hyattsville. The suspect is
18-year-old Marvin Vazquez-Juarez of no fixed address.
On January 1, 2016, at about 7:20 am, patrol
officers with the Maryland-National Capital Park Police Department and the
Prince George's County Police Department were called to the Northwest Branch
Trail in the 6100 block of Ager Road for a welfare check. When they arrived,
they found the victim, 20-year-old Catherine Alvarado, suffering from stab
wounds. She was pronounced dead on the scene.
During
the course of the investigation, detectives developed Vazquez-Juarez as the
suspect. He and the victim had previously been in a relationship. He is charged
with first and second degree murder. He’s in custody of the Department of
Corrections on a no bond status.
