The Prince George's County Police Department is investigating a weather-related death in Hyattsville. The 84-year-old woman was found deceased after wandering from her home.
On January 25, 2016, at about 8:30 pm, patrol officers were called to the 7200 block of Windsor Lane for the report of a missing person. According to her family, Orinda Nelson suffered from Alzheimer's Disease and had wandered away from home more than a dozen times in the past. Patrol officers and detectives searched for Ms. Nelson in her home, in her neighborhood and at nearby businesses where she had been discovered before. A bloodhound was also used in the search.
On Tuesday, a resident in the neighborhood discovered Ms. Nelson in the resident's backyard. She was pronounced dead at a hospital. An autopsy ruled the cause of death to be dementia complicated by hypothermia.
On Monday morning, a man was found deceased in a parking lot in the 6300 block of Livingston Road. A snow removal crew had discovered the decedent while they were clearing the snow in the lot. On Saturday, a Fort Washington man died after shoveling snow outside of his home.
