Navar Beverly

The Homicide Unit arrested a man in connection with the murder of his stepfather. The suspect is 38-year-old Navar Beverly of the 15000 block of Dalby Court in Bowie. The victim is 65-year-old Ronald Pinkney also of Dalby Court.

On July 8th, around 8:20 am, officers with the City of Bowie Police Department responded to the 15000 block of Dalby Court after receiving a 911 call about a resident found deceased. When they arrived, they found the victim inside of his home suffering from apparent trauma. He was pronounced dead on the scene. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the manner of death a homicide. The cause of death was asphyxiation.

Responding City of Bowie officers were able to quickly gather the suspect’s information and the van he was likely driving. This information was provided to police agencies throughout the region. Shortly thereafter, the suspect’s van was seen driving on Hampton Park Boulevard by our patrol officers. Officers attempted to perform a traffic stop, at which time the suspect fled. Officers pursued the van, with the pursuit coming to an end at the intersection of Central Avenue and Devonwood Drive. After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was arrested.

The preliminary investigation reveals the suspect and victim had a history of disputes, both verbal and physical.
