Suspect in 2017 Homicide in Lanham Now in Custody

Homicide Unit detectives identified and charged a man in connection with a fatal shooting in Lanham in August of 2017. The suspect is 26-year-old Benson Thorne of the 6800 block of Georgia Avenue in Northwest Washington. He is charged with fatally shooting 24-year-old Troy Foster of Valley Terrace in Southeast Washington.

On August 11, 2017, at approximately 9:15 am, patrol officers were called to the 7000 block of Palamar Turn in Lanham for a welfare check. When they arrived, officers discovered Foster lying on a footpath in a wooded area with gunshot wounds to the body. Foster was pronounced dead on the scene.

The preliminary investigation reveals Thorne shot Foster during an attempted robbery. The suspect and victim were acquaintances.
Thorne is charged with first and second-degree murder and other related charges. He’s currently in custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
