PGPD Arrests Suspect in Domestic-Related Non-Contact Shooting Involving Off-Duty US Capitol Police Officer

The Prince George’s County Police Department charged a suspect in connection with a non-contact shooting in Upper Marlboro. The suspect is 37-year-old Barvetta Singletary of the 13000 block of Burnished Wood Court in Upper Marlboro. The victim is a US Capitol Police Officer who was off-duty at the time. This is a domestic-related incident. No one was hurt.
On August 7, 2015, at about 5:30 am, patrol officers responded to the 13000 block of Burnished Wood Court for the report of a shooting. The preliminary investigation reveals the suspect and the victim got into an argument. During the argument, the suspect grabbed the officer’s duty weapon and fired one round striking the floor. The gun had been in a bag prior to the incident.
Singletary is charged with first and second degree assault and reckless endangerment.
