PGPD Obtains Arrest Warrant for Suspect in District Heights Homicide

The Prince George’s County Police Department obtained an arrest warrant and is actively searching for the suspect wanted in connection with a homicide in District Heights. The suspect is 29-year-old Joseph Poteat of the 1900 block of Rochelle Avenue in District Heights. He’s charged with the murder of 32-year-old Marquita Wimms of 23rd Parkway in Hillcrest Heights.

On October 3, 2015, at about 10:45 pm, patrol officers responded to the 1900 block of Rochelle Avenue for the report of a vehicle that crashed into a building. When they arrived, they found Wimms inside the vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. 

Detectives are working to establish a motive in this case.

Poteat is charged with first and second degree murder and other related charges.
