PGPD to Conduct Sobriety Checkpoint for 4th of July Weekend

Prince George’s County, Maryland…The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Special Operations Division will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint in the central portion of the County on Friday, July 1, 2011 from 9:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. as part of a safe 4th of July holiday weekend.

An increased amount of motorists and pedestrians will be traveling throughout the County for the holiday weekend and we want to make sure they arrive safely to their destinations. In an effort to reduce the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol-related crashes, sobriety checkpoints are conducted to identify offenders and get them off the street, as well as to educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving.

Each year drunk driving is a major cause of injury and fatal collisions. Our objective is to send a clear message to those who are considering driving a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol and encourage all drivers to designate a sober driver if they choose to drink.
