Suspect in Custody for January Homicide in Oxon Hill

Homicide Unit detectives have charged a man in connection with a homicide in Oxon Hill in January. The suspect is 28-year-old Tavone Martin of no fixed address. He’s charged with fatally shooting 41-year-old Derrick McCray of no fixed address.

On January 27th, about 6:20 pm, patrol officers were called to the 5600 block of St. Barnabas Road for a shooting. When they arrived, they found the victim in the street suffering from gunshot wounds. He died several hours later at a hospital.

Martin is charged with first and second degree murder. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status. The suspect and victim were friends. The motive remains under investigation.
