UPDATE 9/5/2018: The criminal trial
for suspended Prince George’s County Corporal Cordell Barbour concluded with a
not guilty finding. He currently remains on suspension pending the
outcome of the internal administrative investigation which is ongoing.
Corporal Cordell Barbour faces a charge of theft scheme. The allegation involves conduct between April and June of this year. Barbour’s police powers were first suspended with pay on June 30, 2016.
The Internal Affairs Division launched an investigation in early April after learning of potential misconduct involving Barbour’s secondary employment compensation.
Chief Hank Stawinski issued this statement following the grand jury indictment:
“The Prince George’s County Police Department brought this case to the State’s Attorney’s Office for consideration of criminal charges following our own internal investigation. The department will not tolerate any criminal misconduct. We have an unwavering commitment to maintain the community’s trust.”
Barbour has been employed by the department for nine years and is assigned to the Bureau of Patrol.
