Police Release New Information in Fatal Hit-and-Run Collision in Oxon Hill

UPDATE: CARU investigators believe the striking vehicle is possibly a dark colored Chevrolet Cavalier or Geo Prism with damage to the grill or headlight portion of the vehicle. Investigators are seeking information on the whereabouts of the striking vehicle and driver.

Prince George’s County, Maryland…The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit (CARU) is continuing its investigation into a fatal hit and run pedestrian collision that resulted in the deaths of a man and woman in Oxon Hill, Maryland two weeks ago.

On January 6, 2012, at approximately 6:59 a.m., patrol officers responded to the 6200 block of Oxon Hill Road, for a call of a pedestrian struck. Upon arrival, patrol officers found 55 year-old Michael Jerome Thomas, Sr. and 62 year-old Mildred Caroline Freeman, both of the 6500 block of Bock Terrace in Oxon Hill, suffering from trauma consistent with a vehicle collision. They were transported to a local hospital where Michael Thomas was pronounced deceased late that night. Mildred Freeman succumbed to her injuries the following morning.

A preliminary investigation revealed the victims were standing in the center turn lane when the unknown vehicle, traveling eastbound on Oxon Hill Road, struck them and fled the scene.
