Prince George’s
County, Maryland…The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Special
Investigation Response Team (SIRT) is investigating a police-involved shooting
that occurred this morning in Temple Hills, Maryland.
After a female
dialed 911, two patrol officers were dispatched to a domestic violence dispute
in progress along the 2600 block of Keating Street in Temple Hills at
approximately 4:00 a.m. Upon their
arrival, the patrol officers observed 30 year-old Joseph Andoh Quarm,
attempting to leave the residence. As
the patrol officers attempted to question him, Quarm threw a punch at one of
the patrol officers and fled on foot towards his nearby parked motor vehicle.
An apprehension
effort ensued as Quarm continued to resist arrest. Pepper spray and an electronic control device
(Taser) were deployed as Quarm attempted to disarm one of the patrol officers
of his holstered firearm. Fearing for
her partner’s life, the other on-scene patrol officer discharged her firearm at
the suspect. Quarm made good his escape
in his motor vehicle. The vehicle has
since been recovered.
