Police Make Arrests in Lanham Murder

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit has arrested 26 year-old Teddy Kaikai Marchant and 36 year-old Alhaji Abu Bakarr in connection with the murder of 34 year-old Aiah Nyanga Tongu in Lanham, Maryland.    

On March 18, 2012, at approximately 5:15 a.m., patrol officers responded to Prince George’s Hospital for the report of a death.  Tongu, of the 9100 block of Edmonston Road, Greenbelt, Maryland, came into the emergency room with difficulties breathing.  He was pronounced dead the same day.  The body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

On April 4, 2012, homicide detectives received a report from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruling the death of Tongu a homicide.  Detectives developed Marchant, of the 5500 block of Decatur Street, Bladensburg, Maryland, and Bakarr, of the 1400 block of Tongue Street, Bowie, Maryland, as suspects in the case.  Both Marchant and Bakarr are currently incarcerated on charges related to this incident and are at the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections on a no bond status.
