PGPD Searches for Missing Teen

 

Fiorella Thornburg

The Prince George's County Police Department is seeking the public's assistance in finding a missing teen. She is identified as 15-year-old Fiorella Thornburg. She was last seen in the 4400 block of Sheridan St. in University Park on March 27, 2023, at approximately 2:30 am.

Ms. Thornburg is a white female, 5 feet 4 inches tall and 110 pounds. She was last seen wearing a black sweater and camouflage pants.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Collision

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision in the Landover Hills area. Investigators are working to identify the deceased pedestrian so his family can be notified.

On March 26, 2023, at approximately 1:00 am, officers responded to the 6600 block of Annapolis Road. 

The preliminary investigation revealed the involved driver was traveling westbound on Annapolis Road when he struck the pedestrian in the roadway. The driver and passenger were not injured and remained on the scene. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Two 15-Year-Old Males in Custody for Armed Carjacking

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Carjacking Interdiction Unit charged two 15-year-old males with armed carjacking. One suspect is from the Landover area. The second lives in Washington, DC.

On March 26, 2023, at approximately 3:55 am, a victim called 911 after being carjacked at gunpoint in the 2900 block of St. Clair Drive in Temple Hills. A description of the victim’s vehicle was immediately broadcast to officers in the area. Approximately five minutes later, Division IV officers observed the vehicle in the area of 23rd Parkway and Oxon Run Drive in Temple Hills. Officers attempted to conduct a stop but the driver fled into Washington, DC. The driver stopped the vehicle on 30th Street in Southeast, Washington, DC, and both the driver and passenger bailed out of the vehicle. Officers were able to take both into custody nearby. 

 

Both juveniles face multiple charges to include armed carjacking, armed robbery, robbery, theft and additional charges. They remain in custody in Washington, DC. They are charged as juveniles.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Collision in Clinton

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal collision that occurred Friday night in Clinton. The deceased driver is 48-year-old Roland Beach Jr. of Clinton. 

On March 24, 2023, at approximately 10:10pm, officers responded to the 8100 block of Old Alexandria Ferry Road for a single-vehicle collision.  

The preliminary investigation revealed Beach was traveling eastbound on Old Alexandria Ferry Road, when for reasons now under investigation, he lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway and came to rest in a wooded area. He was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Suspect in Custody for Armed Robbery of Two Hotels

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Robbery Unit arrested a man linked to the armed robberies of two hotels. He’s 31-year-old Rodney Knight of Upper Marlboro.

The preliminary investigation revealed Knight robbed a hotel in the 9400 block of Largo Drive West in Upper Marlboro on September 24, 2022. He’s also charged with robbing another hotel in the 6300 block of Oxon Hill Road on September 19, 2022.

Through various investigative techniques, Knight was identified as the suspect and has been taken into custody.

Robbery Unit Detectives Identify & Arrest Suspect in String of Commercial Armed Robberies

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Robbery Unit identified and arrested a man in connection with four recent armed robberies and attempted armed robberies at county businesses. He is 40-year-old James Kareen Day of Jessup, MD.

 Day is charged with four cases dating back to December of 2022:

*February 12, 2023: attempted armed robbery of business in the 3600 block of Branch Avenue, Temple Hills

*February 5, 2023: armed robbery of business in the 4700 block of Allentown Road, Suitland

*February 4, 2023: attempted armed robbery of business in the 5400 block of Silver Hill Road, District Heights

*December 23, 2022: armed robbery of business in the 4900 block of Silver Hill Road, Suitland

In each of these incidents, Day demanded money at gunpoint. Through various investigative techniques, Day was identified as the suspect. He was indicted on March 16, 2023. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections.

Fatal Shooting Under Investigation

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is actively investigating a fatal shooting. The victim is 33-year-old Richard Bentley. His last known address is in Alexandria, VA. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case. 

On March 20, 2023, at approximately 2:10 am, officers responded to the 6200 block of Atwood Street in District Heights for a welfare check. Officers located the victim lying in the roadway suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on scene.

 

Investigators are working to identify the suspect(s) and determine a motive.

PGPD Investigates Fatal Collision in Landover

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that took place Sunday evening in Landover. The deceased driver is 28-year-old Jibrell Moore of Capitol Heights. 

On March 19, 2023, at approximately 6:55 pm, officers responded to the 1000 block of Hill Road for a collision.

The preliminary investigation revealed Moore was traveling southbound on Hill Road, when for reasons now under investigation, he lost control of his vehicle and struck a parked car. The force of the crash caused the parked car to strike a second parked car. Both parked vehicles were unoccupied. Moore was pronounced dead on the scene.

PGPD Investigates Fatal Collision in Suitland

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that took place Thursday evening in Suitland. The deceased driver is 65-year-old Maurice A. Berry of Washington, DC. 

On March 16, 2023, at approximately 10:25 pm, officers responded to the area of Pennsylvania Avenue and Spaulding Avenue for a collision involving two vehicles.  

The preliminary investigation revealed Berry was traveling northbound on Pennsylvania Avenue, when for reasons now under investigation, he made a left turn onto Spaulding Avenue and was struck by an SUV. Berry was pronounced dead on scene. The driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries.

Suspect in Custody in Connection With Fatal Shooting in Temple Hills

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit charged a man in connection with a fatal shooting in Temple Hills in February. The suspect is 27-year-old Omar Delonte Smith of Washington, DC. He’s charged with fatally shooting 31-year-old Eugene Smith of Washington, D.C.

On February 23, 2023, at approximately 11:45 pm, officers responded to a business in the 3100 block of Branch Avenue for a shooting. Officers located the victim in front of the location suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene. 

Detectives believe the motive was an employment dispute.

Omar Smith is charged with first and second degree murder and related charges. He’s in custody in the Richmond, VA, area awaiting extradition to Prince George’s County.

PGPD Releases Video of Dog Theft in District Heights


Update March 20, 2023: Canela is back with her family! Prelim: someone recently dropped off the dog at a pet store on Donnell Drive. An employee contacted police. Investigation into theft continues. Thank you all for sharing this story.


The Westphalia Division VIII Investigative Section today released video of the suspect who stole a dog recently from outside of a District Heights home. The dog is a five-year-old female Dachshund breed named Canela.

This theft occurred on March 6, 2023, at approximately 5:35 am, in the 6200 block of Foster Street in the unincorporated section of District Heights. In the video, the female suspect is seen coming onto the porch of the home and approaching the dog. She ultimately takes the dog. A second suspect is believed to be involved in the theft.

Detectives Arrest Three Suspects in Stolen Vehicle; Five Firearms Recovered




The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Washington Area Vehicle Enforcement (WAVE) team arrested three suspects who were in a stolen vehicle. Officers recovered five firearms, including one that was reported stolen. The suspects are 22-year-old Marquise Jackson, 22-year-old Marquette Jackson and 23-year-old Darrell Byrd. The three suspects are from Washington, DC.

On March 10, 2023, at approximately 12:10 am, WAVE team investigators stopped a stolen vehicle in the area of Brooks Drive and Silver Hill Road in Suitland. The vehicle was reported stolen on February 17, 2023, in another jurisdiction. During the stop, the driver, Marquise Jackson and the two passengers, Marquette Jackson and Darrell Byrd, were taken into custody. Officers recovered a total of five weapons during the stop. 

The suspects are charged with theft, stolen auto and multiple firearms offense. They are in the custody of the Department of Corrections.

Two Suspects in Stolen Hyundai Taken into Custody



The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Washington Area Vehicle Enforcement team arrested two suspects who were in a stolen Hyundai. The suspects are two 17-year-old juvenile males of Upper Marlboro. 

On March 8, 2023, at approximately 11:30 am, WAVE members observed a Hyundai Elantra that had recently been reported stolen in Prince George’s County on March 3, 2023. The detectives stopped the car in the area of Kettering Drive and West Branch Drive. Officers took the driver and passenger into custody.   

To help prevent vehicle theft, we encourage residents to remove charger cords from their vehicles or at least hide them. Also, consider purchasing a brake pedal club, alarm, or other theft-prevention devices. 

The suspects are charged with theft, unauthorized removal of a vehicle, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, and additional charges.

PGPD Arrests Suspect in Connection with February Fatal Shooting in Capitol Heights

The Homicide Unit arrested and charged a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting from early February in the unincorporated section of Capitol Heights. The suspect is 21-year-old Kareem Roshe Boyd of Washington, DC. He is charged with fatally shooting 21-year-old Neeko Dukes of Capitol Heights. 

On February 3, 2023, at approximately 2:15 am, officers responded to a home in the 1000 block of Balboa Avenue for a shooting. Officers located Dukes inside of the house suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The motive for the fatal shooting remains under investigation.

Boyd is charged with first-degree murder and related charges. He’s currently in custody in DC awaiting extradition to Prince George’s County.

PGPD Investigates Fatal Collision in Unincorporated Section of Upper Marlboro

UPDATE March 8, 2023: The deceased passenger has been identified as Cayliy Haygood of Upper Marlboro.

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that took place Tuesday morning in the unincorporated section of Upper Marlboro. The deceased passenger is an 18-year-old female of Upper Marlboro. 

On March 7, 2023, at approximately 9:00 am, officers responded to the area of Ritchie Marlboro Road and Marlboro Pointe Drive for a motor vehicle collision.  

The preliminary investigation revealed the decedent was a passenger in a car traveling northbound on Ritchie Marlboro Road when for reasons that are under investigation, the car attempted to overtake a second vehicle and struck the rear of a landscaping trailer. The decedent was pronounced on scene. The driver was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
