PGPD Investigating Fatal Shooting in the City of Hyattsville

Prince George's County Police Homicide Unit detectives are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the City of Hyattsville on Tuesday night. The victim is 26-year-old Yuri Echavarria Jr., of Hyattsville. Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random crime.

On August 13^th at approximately 9:50 pm, officers with the City of Hyattsville Police Department responded to the 4200 block of Oglethorpe Street for the report of a shooting. When they arrived, the officers discovered Echavarria inside the stairwell of an apartment building suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Detectives are working to establish a motive and identify suspect(s).

The Prince George's County Police Department investigates all homicides in the City of Hyattsville.

Policía del Condado de Prince George Investiga Fatal Balacera en la Ciudad de Hyattsville

Detectives de la Unidad de Homicidios de la Policía del Condado de Prince George investigan un tiroteo fatal ocurrido en la Ciudad de Hyattsville el martes en la noche. La víctima es Yuri Echavarría Jr., de 26 años de edad y vecino de Hyattsville. Los detectives han determinado preliminarmente que no se trata de un crimen al azar.

El 13 de agosto, a eso de las 9:50 pm, oficiales del Departamento de la Policía de la Ciudad de Hyattsville acudieron a la cuadra 4200 de Oglethorpe Street ante un reporte de balacera. Al llegar, los oficiales encontraron a Echavarría con heridas de bala en las escaleras de un edificio de apartamentos. Le declararon muerto en la escena.
