PGPD Investigates Fatal Collision in Lanham

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal collision in Lanham. The victim is identified as 22-year-old Romulo Hernandez of the 9200 block of Greenwood Lane in Lanham.

On March 18, 2014, at about 1:20 am, patrol officers were called to the intersection of Annapolis Road and Fontana Drive for a crash involving two cars.  Both of the drivers were taken to the hospital.  Hernandez later died of his injuries. The second driver is expected to survive.

The preliminary investigation suggests Hernandez was attempting to make a left turn onto Annapolis Road from Fontana Drive when he was struck by the second car. That car had been travelling eastbound on Annapolis road.

Preliminarily, it appears Hernandez failed to yield the right of way to the second car.  Investigators are looking into whether speed also played a role in the crash.
