Detectives Investigate Fatal Shooting in Chillum

Detectives continue to investigate the fatal shooting in Chillum on Tuesday. The deceased man is 32-year-old Deontae Parker of no fixed address.

On December 26th, at about 2:15 am, a resident of a home in the 6200 block of Sligo Parkway called 911 to report a shooting. When officers arrived, they discovered the deceased man outside with a gunshot wound to the upper body. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

Preliminarily, detectives believe a homeowner shot Parker from inside of his home, striking Parker who had broken into the homeowner’s vehicle. Detectives have recovered video from the home’s surveillance system which shows Parker’s actions prior to the shooting. The handgun used in the shooting was recovered from the homeowner. It’s believed an additional suspect fled the scene prior to officers arriving. Detectives do not believe the homeowner and Parker knew each other.

Preliminarily, detectives are investigating whether the homeowner’s actions were justified.

Detectives are in consultation with the State's Attorney's Office regarding any potential criminal charges in this case.
