PGPD Investigates Fatal Pedestrian Collision in Capitol Heights


The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision in Capitol Heights. The victim is 39-year-old Akil Nesby of 58th Street in Northeast Washington, DC.

On January16th, at approximately 8:30 pm, patrol officers were called to the area of Central Avenue and Hampton Park Boulevard for a collision involving a pedestrian. The officers located the pedestrian, Nesby, suffering from critical injuries. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The preliminary investigation reveals the involved SUV was traveling eastbound on Central Avenue toward Hampton Park Boulevard in the left lane. The victim was walking on Central Avenue in a vehicle travel lane when he was struck. Investigators are working to determine why he was in the roadway. The involved driver remained on the scene.
