Police Seek Identity of Suspect in Armed Robbery of 7-Eleven in Lanham

The Prince George’s County Police Department is working to identify the suspect shown in the above surveillance photograph. On February 9th, 2012, at approximately 3:33 a.m., the suspect committed an armed robbery at the 7-Eleven store located at 9002 Lanham Severn Road in Lanham, Maryland.

PGPD Announces Results of the 2012 January Initiative

Prince George’s County, Maryland…. Prince George’s County Police Chief Mark A. Magaw is pleased to announce the results of the 2012 January Initiative.  The initiative, which ran for five consecutive weeks, was conducted during a 24 hour, seven day a week period.  The initiative included police officers from the Bureau of Patrol, Narcotics Enforcement Division, Special Operations Division, Special Investigations Division, Traffic Enforcement Unit, Special Assignment Teams, Robbery Suppression and Burglary Suppression Teams.  Each unit conducted proactive enforcement operations in communities inside the Beltway that have been identified as having a high propensity for criminal activity. 

“The incredible amount of work done by the officers involved in this program only exemplifies our commitment to making these communities safer,” said Major Joseph McCann.

During the initiative, officers made a total of 551 arrests that included two murder arrests, three attempted murder arrests, 23 robberies or attempted robbery arrests and three carjacking arrests and seized 54 handguns. Officers recovered illegal drugs with a street value totaling nearly $100,000.

“Our community deserves the very best that we have to offer. With that, I want to assure our community that we will continue to work together in partnership to reduce crime,” said Chief Mark A. Magaw.

Carlos F. Acosta Named Inspector General for Prince George’s County Police Department

Prince George’s County Maryland…Prince George’s Police Chief Mark A. Magaw is pleased to announce the appointment of Carlos F. Acosta as Inspector General for the Prince George’s County Police Department.  On January 30, 2012, Carlos F. Acosta officially began serving as Inspector. He oversees the Department’s Internal Affairs Division.  He is responsible for investigating systemic or specific issues affecting the police department’s operations.

Mr. Acosta is a graduate of the University of Maryland at College Park (B.A. and M.A.) and the Southern Methodist University School of Law in Dallas where he received his J.D.  He joins the Department following positions as Deputy State’s Attorney for Prince George’s County, Trial Attorney for the United States Department of Justice Criminal Division’s Gang Squad, Special Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia and an Assistant State’s Attorney for the Montgomery County, Maryland Office of the State’s Attorney.  Mr. Acosta is currently an adjunct Associate Professor of Law at the American University – Washington College of Law.  He served as a faculty member for the National Advocacy Center in Columbia, South Carolina.  Mr. Acosta has been a lecturer both domestically and internationally for various Department of Justice agencies, the Financial Action Task Force-Le Groupe d’Action Financiére (FATF-GAFI) and the United Nations Development Programme.

            “My focus is on transparency and accountability. The Prince George’s County Police Department is only as good as the faith the community has in it,” said Mr. Acosta.

PGPD Officer arrested for DUI in St. Mary’s County

Prince George’s County, Maryland… The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Special Investigation Response Team (SIRT) is investigating the arrest of Prince George’s County Police Corporal Derrick Neumer.

On February 7, 2012, the Maryland State Police arrested Corporal Neumer in St. Mary’s County, Maryland, and charged him with driving under the influence and related traffic charges to include speeding. Corporal Neumer was off duty and not driving a departmental vehicle. Corporal Neumer is a 13-year member of the department, assigned to the Bureau of Patrol/District IV. His police powers have been suspended. An administrative investigation has been initiated by the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Special Investigation Response Team.
