PGPD Investigates Fatal Collision in Hyattsville

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal collision in Hyattsville.  The victims are identified as 38-year-old Jose Cuevas Raudes of 14th Avenue in Hyattsville and 33-year-old Dilcia Gutierrez Vasquez.

On November 1, 2013, at about 6:00 am, patrol officers were called to the intersection of Riggs Road at Drexel Street for the report of a collision involving two cars.  Cuevas Raudes was pronounced dead on the scene. Vasquez was taken to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The preliminary investigation reveals Cuevas Raudes was driving a Toyota eastbound on Drexel Street and attempted to turn onto Riggs Road.  An Acura was travelling southbound on Riggs Road.  For reasons which remain unclear, the driver of the Acura lost control and left the roadway.  The Acura then returned to the roadway and crossed into the northbound lane of Riggs Road before striking the Toyota.  Vasquez was a passenger in the Toyota.  The driver of the Acura suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Preliminarily, speed appears to be a factor in the collision.
