PGPD to Provide Real Time Traffic Updates at Tanger Outlets Opening

Just in time for the holiday shopping season, Prince George’s County is getting ready to celebrate tomorrow's grand opening of the Tanger Outlets at the National Harbor.  The Prince George's County Police Department's Special Operations Division (SOD) will handle traffic management. Approximately 20,000 cars are expected Friday for the newest outlet center in the region. To help all drivers in the area prepare, the PGPD will provide up-to-the-minute traffic and parking information via Twitter from @PGPDNews using the hashtag #OperationOutlets. Store doors open Friday at 9 am which coincides with the morning rush, so drivers in the area should prepare for major delays. If you aren't headed to the outlets or don't need to be in the area, plan to take an alternate route.  If you are coming out for opening day, here are a few suggestions to help you either make your way to the outlets, to work, or wherever you need to go:

Heaviest delays expected during morning and evening rush hours

From Maryland: take Exit 3 from I-495 W to get to Tanger Outlets. This is the most direct route.

From Virginia: take Exit 3A and follow signs to Tanger Blvd.

Follow highways signs and mobile electronic message signs for guidance. Limited shuttle service from the National Harbor is available for shoppers

Follow @PGPDNews for the latest on the traffic situations and parking updates at Tanger Outlets, using #OperationOutlets.

Tanger Outlets is close to a residential neighborhood. Be advised, if shoppers park there, they could be ticketed and/or towed.
