The Prince George’s County Police Department produced a safety video geared to helping business owners and employees understand a new county law that goes into effect in 2014.
In September 2013, the Prince George’s County Council approved legislation (CB-93-2012) which requires gas stations and convenience stores to comply with new safety regulations. The law requires installing security cameras, training employees in money management and other best practice safety procedures.
The new legislation is aimed at improving safety and stopping criminals who target convenience stores and gas stations, particularly during the overnight hours. Historically, close to 20% of commercial robberies in the county occur between 11:00 pm and 6:00 am.
The legislation goes into effect on January 1, 2014.
